With federal courts halting President Donald Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act, he and his allies responded this week by ratcheting up their push to undermine the rule of law and due process.

Catch up quickly 

  • In a brief ruling, the Supreme Court lifted a lower court’s nationwide injunction against Trump’s ban on transgender troops serving in the military, allowing the ban to go into effect as litigation continues. The court’s three liberal justices dissented.

  • A coalition of community organizations across the country filed a lawsuit to prevent the Trump administration from unilaterally cutting AmeriCorps grants and service programs.
      
  • Democratic attorneys general in 19 states and D.C. sued Trump officials to block them from dismantling the Department of Health and Human Services, arguing that they are violating the Constitution by usurping Congress’ ability to appropriate funds.
