SCOTUS seems ready to scrap fair elections, greenlight racial discrimination and hand House control to GOP

  • After over two hours of oral argument in a high-stakes Louisiana redistricting case, the Supreme Court seemed ready to scrap fair elections and let red states freely draw electoral maps that eviscerate the political power of minority voters.

  • “We were an underserved population. Without the fair map, people are not represented, their issues are not addressed and they have no way of getting their needs and issues addressed,” Dr. Alice Washington told Democracy Docket at a protest outside of the Supreme Court.

  • Missouri voters are organizing to collect signatures for a ballot measure to veto the GOP's new gerrymandered map. But Republican officials are claiming existing signatures are invalid — and even constitute a “misdemeanor election offense.”

Trump says Special Counsel Jack Smith must be investigated

  • President Donald Trump in an Oval Office press conference today declared former Special Counsel Jack Smith a “criminal,” and said he hoped someone would “look into” him and other former Department of Justice officials.

  • Smith indicted Trump over his effort to overturn the 2020 election — a case that was blocked by the Supreme Court. Trump made the declarations as Attorney General Pam Bondi, the person most likely to open such investigations, stood next to him.

RNC sues Hawaii for access to voter roll records

  • The RNC sued Hawaii, demanding access to its voter roll maintenance records. It’s the latest GOP lawsuit targeting Democratic-led states, as part of a nationwide campaign to cast doubt on secure elections.
