It was a good week for voting rights, which means it was a very bad week for MAGA, anti-voting activists and election deniers.

President Donald Trump and his followers absolutely lost it after the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) blocked implementation of his order restricting mail voting for the midterms. And other MAGA figures threw hissy fits after the justices similarly blocked a GOP gerrymander in Missouri. Enjoy the schadenfreude, folks. You deserve it.

Also in this week’s Eye On The Right: Missouri’s anti-voting election chief is fighting with other election deniers, our quote of the week, notes from the twilight zone, and more.

A double dose of MAGA meltdown after Supreme Court delivers two wins for voters

SCOTUS delivered a rare double win for voters this past week. First, it barred Missouri from using a gerrymandered congressional map favoring the GOP for the midterms. Then, it blocked the Trump administration’s mail voting restrictions for the upcoming election.

Not surprisingly, prominent MAGA figures, election deniers, anti-voting activists and even Trump himself had major crash outs. Here’s what some of them said about the Court’s Missouri ruling:

    • “This is why I don’t celebrate anything the Supreme Court does right,” anti-voting activist Seth Keshel posted on social media. “Just as corrupt as any other branch, and to me a very strong percentage gain for a Dem majority… Our judiciary will be the death of America at this rate.”

    • “A Republican Supreme Court intervening to side with Democrats suing to win back a free congressional seat in a state that voted for Trump by 18 points,” conservative commentator Christian Heiens complained. “Imagine where we’d be today if we didn’t constantly sabotage ourselves in the name of abstract legal procedures that the other side doesn’t give a damn about.”

Their ire at SCOTUS grew stronger late Monday evening when the Court rejected Trump’s bid to revive mail-voting restrictions ahead of the midterms. The president took to Truth Social to deliver a long rant about how pissed he is at Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Neil Gorsuch — all of whom he appointed.

    • “This Supreme Court is bullied and cajoled by the Radical Left into making decisions that have set America back at least a hundred years,” Trump said. “These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves, a Court that is costing the United States Trillions of Dollars with shockingly bad rulings that are of such magnitude that it won’t be easily possible for our Country to recover or heal.”

    • “The courts, at the behest of the Left, have delayed simple Postal Service rule changes for months and now the Supreme Court, which aided and abetted these delay [sic], seems to pretend [sic] is ‘too late’ to protect our elections two months from now,” Tom Fitton, president of the far-right legal group Judicial Watch, said on social media, seemingly indicating that there’s a conspiracy involving the 6-3 conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court and the “left.” I think he’s onto something.

    • And, writing before the ruling but anticipating how it might go, far-right attorney Cleta Mitchell renewed her call for ending mail and early voting. “Restore voting in person, in precincts, and make Election Day great again,” Mitchell posted on X.

Troublingly, others are using the rulings to push Trump to declare a national emergency to take over voting for the midterm elections.

    • “We have [sic] COMMANDING conservative 6-3 advantage in Supreme Court. Yet they vote for Obamacare… for birthright citizenship… & against any form of election security/integrity,” far-right commentator Wayne Allyn Root wrote. “They allow mail-in ballots with no limits & counting ballots days past election… I hope & pray President Trump now understands there is no other choice- he needs to declare National Security Emergency. I have branded it ‘NEED Act.’

Prominent election deniers call for investigation into Missouri’s anti-voting election chief

It has not been a good week for Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins (R). SCOTUS blocked a GOP gerrymander from being used — after Hoskins tried to force election officials to use the map even though the Missouri Supreme Court had already nixed it. Hoskins was then held in contempt for defying his state’s highest court. Soon after, voters hit him with an $80 million lawsuit over the whole redistricting debacle.

Now, a former “election integrity director” in Hoskins’ office has filed a whistleblower lawsuit, accusing Hoskins of serious misconduct — including changing the results of a city election and fabricating evidence for a federal hearing. Hoskins’ office has declined to comment on the lawsuit. But what’s entertaining is that prominent election deniers are now calling for Hoskins, who is himself an election denier and one of the country’s most anti-voting election chiefs, to be investigated.

    • Pete Bernegger, a former Missouri state senator and a popular election conspiracy theorist, called for Hoskins’ resignation and for him to turn himself in to the FBI.

    • Convicted election denier Tina Peters — who served prison time for her role in a 2021 voting systems data breach spurred by election conspiracies — called for an FBI investigation into Hoskins on social media.

I’ll be honest — I don’t exactly know who or what to believe here: You have one set of election deniers accusing another election denier of failing to pursue election crimes. If anything, this is like an ouroboros of election denial come to life.

    Notes from the Twilight Zone

    • Disgraced former national security advisor Gen. Michael Flynn (remember him?) is begging the Department of Justice to bring in conspiracy theorist Patrick Byrne for questioning about voter fraud. Uh, ok.

    • Victor Marx, the GOP’s election denier gubernatorial candidate in Colorado, called himself a "reverse coconut: Brown on the inside, white on the outside" and said he's "comfortable around people of color,” in a leaked audio recording. Reminder: this is the guy who refused to say how many people he’s killed.
