‘Time for the state to take over’: Georgia Republicans seize on vote-reporting delay in push to control Fulton County elections

  • Georgia Republicans baselessly claimed that a delay in Fulton County’s primary election reporting was evidence of fraud, then sought to use the episode to advance their push to have the state take over election operations in the Democratic stronghold.

  • The claims were made during a primary that sent Republican election deniers and voter suppression backers on to runoffs for governor and secretary of state. Democrat-backed state Supreme Court candidates also lost a critical Georgia race.

DOJ told a court it hasn’t implemented Trump’s anti-voting order. Todd Blanche’s testimony just undermined that, new filing alleges

  • Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche might have stepped on a rake during his recent Senate testimony, when he said the Department of Justice (DOJ) was “working with other agencies within the administration to implement” President Donald Trump’s recent executive order on mail voting.

  • Democratic lawyers argued that Blanche’s sworn congressional testimony contradicted the DOJ’s courtroom claims in the ongoing challenge to the order.

South Carolina redistricting: House rigs rules to quickly advance gerrymandered map

  • The South Carolina House of Representatives advanced a new congressional gerrymander early this morning, paving the way for lawmakers to quickly redraw the state’s map to dismantle its lone majority-Black district days before early voting starts in the primary election.

  • Democrats introduced nearly 600 amendments in an attempt to run out the clock on the special session’s deadline. But the House Rules Committee voted behind closed doors to change the legislative process.

  • Meanwhile, a South Carolina judge also denied a pro-voting request to halt the state House from fast-tracking Republicans' redistricting plan ahead of the primaries.

Trump calls on Senate to fire parliamentarian to pass the SAVE America Act

  • In a social media tirade, Trump demanded the replacement of the Senate parliamentarian, who determines whether certain bills can bypass filibuster thresholds, claiming she obstructed the passage of the severely anti-voting SAVE America Act.

Pennsylvania GOP governor nominee has long history of 2020 election denial

  • Stacy Garrity won Pennsylvania’s Republican gubernatorial primary after running unopposed. She’s repeated falsehoods about Trump winning the 2020 election over the past several years, including speaking at a rally the day before the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riots.

Court bashes internal DOJ legal memo that Trump admin used to justify voter roll grab

  • The DOJ appeared to hit another roadblock in its unprecedented effort to obtain sensitive voter registration data from every state, as a panel of federal judges sounded deeply skeptical of the government’s argument for access to California and Oregon’s voter rolls.

To protect voting rights after Callais, we need to invest in red states

  • The Supreme Court’s gutting of the Voting Rights Act was a clarifying moment, former Rep. Joe Kennedy III argues.

  • “Callais is a gut punch. It is also a clarifying moment. The question is not whether we should fight — of course we should. The question is whether we will finally fight where the battle actually is...”

  • An anti-voting lawsuit challenging California’s voter roll maintenance procedures was filed by Judicial Watch. It is the latest in a nationwide campaign by the conservative group to pressure states into aggressively purging voters from registration rolls under the National Voter Registration Act.

  • During a commencement ceremony speech in front of Coast Guard cadets, Trump once again mused about unconstitutionally serving more terms, telling them: “I'm gonna be here in '28. Maybe I'll be here in '32 too. I don't know. Maybe I will.”

  • There’s a golden-haired buffalo in Bangladesh drawing large crowds because of its striking resemblance to Trump. (Spoiler alert: It’s the hair.)
