After President Donald Trump earmarked nearly $1.8 billion for a slush fund dedicated to victims of government “weaponization and lawfare,” notorious election deniers, Jan. 6 rioters, and fake electors are all hoping for a big payday. Also in this week’s Eye On The Right: Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said Tina Peters took responsibility for her crimes, but her latest social media post suggests otherwise, and more.

Election deniers and Jan. 6 rioters are all hoping for a piece of Trump’s $1.8 billion “weaponization” slush fund

President Donald Trump earmarked $1.8 billion — sorry, $1.776 billion, because of course — for a slush fund dedicated to victims of government “weaponization and lawfare.” The money would be paid to people who claim they were unfairly targeted by the Biden administration. In other words: A lot of right-wing grifters might be getting your tax dollars.

  • CNN spoke with a bunch of convicted Jan. 6 rioters and fake electors who schemed to help Trump overturn the 2020 election. “I look forward to financial compensation,” U.S. Capitol rioter Dominic Box said. “I need it. This will be a welcome relief.”

  • Others who have publicly said they’re hoping for a payout include the far-right news network One America News, former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, and MyPillow CEO and conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell.

  • GOP activists who helped Trump try to steal the 2020 election in Michigan are also hoping to get a hefty payout. “Reading the announcement was an emotional relief,” said Meshawn Maddock, a Michigan fake elector. “I was debanked. I faced the real possibility of prison time. The trauma to my three kids and the thought of being separated from my grandchildren – it took a lot out of us.”

  • And another election denier primed for a big payout from the fund? Tina Peters, the former Colorado GOP election official, was convicted for her role in a voting system breach. Vice President JD Vance said it’s “reasonable for [Peters] to get some compensation” because of a “completely disproportionate” prison sentence.

  • One guy who’s not a fan of Trump’s weaponization slush fund? The Q Anon Shaman: “You think I’m gonna take a dime of that blood money?,” Jacob Angeli-Chansley asked.

Jared Polis said Tina Peters took responsibility for her crimes. Her latest social media post suggests otherwise

When Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) announced earlier this month that he’s granting clemency to Peters, which allows her to be eligible for parole next month, lawmakers, elected officials, and election workers were pissed.

Secretary of State Jena Griswold (D) called Polis’ decision “a gross injustice… with far-reaching consequences.” State Democrats formally censured Polis. And Colorado’s League of Women Voters chapter withdrew a planned “Leader of Democracy” award for the governor.

Peters, meanwhile, expressed her gratitude — and suggested the Democratic censure is further evidence that the party is trying to cover up a rigged 2020 election.

  • In Polis’ letter to Peters informing her of the commutation, he wrote that she “demonstrate[d] taking responsibility for your crimes.” But a recent post on Peters’ social media account, managed by her legal team, displayed anything but remorse from the convicted election denier.

  • “The Democrats have once again shown that if you do not stay within their party line, they will try to destroy you,” the post said. “They are attacking the governor for showing mercy, and they have put a bullseye on a 70-year-old, nonviolent, first-time offender.”

  • The post also touched on the same bogus election conspiracy theories about the 2020 election that led to Peters’ conviction in the first place. “It should be obvious to Democrats and Republicans alike that they have something to hide,” Peters’ account said. “It is so obvious that they are willing to continue destroying people’s lives to cover it up.”

  • “If you needed proof that Tina Peters lacks remorse, read the post below,” Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser (D) said on X in response. “Commuting her sentence was a historic mistake, a disservice to those who protect our elections, and an insult to those of us who worked on this criminal prosecution.”

Notes from the Twilight Zone

  • Incredible: Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche thinks Americans “want their tax dollars spent on things” like the weaponization slush fund. Keep saying that on TV, Todd! It’ll really help your boss with the midterms!

  • Anti-voting activist Scott Presler is very mad that Cyndi Lauper came out against the SAVE America Act.
