In latest political prosecution, Trump DOJ indicts New York AG

  • A federal grand jury indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) on one count of bank fraud today. President Donald Trump last month publicly ordered the Department of Justice to go after his perceived enemies more aggressively. 

  • The case against James was brought by Lindsey Halligan, one of Trump’s former personal lawyers turned acting U.S. attorney of the Eastern District of Virginia. Trump installed Halligan after forcing the district’s former U.S. attorney out of his post for raising concerns about the case against James and other Trump critics.

Anti-voting activists are using the Pennsylvania Supreme Court election to spread disinformation

Montana student residency requirement challenged 

  • A pro-voting group filed a motion to block a Montana law that bars students from registering to vote in the county where they live. The group argues the law violates the state constitution and will disenfranchise thousands of student voters.

  • Montana’s 16 public colleges and universities serve more than 47,000 students—accounting for roughly 37% of the state’s population between ages 18 and 24.

Top GOP mapmaker describes a Texas gerrymander ordered up by Washington

  • This year, Texas handed the keys to its congressional map over to Washington. The Republican Party’s top mapmaker testified he received directions only from the White House, as well as requests from the Texas GOP congressional delegation.
